Cinescape is a painting created on a horizontally shaped canvas as opposed to a more traditional square shaped canvas. Cinescape is a combination of Cinerama, the motion picture process designed to produce wide-screen images, with landscape, the subject matter of my paintings.
Cinescape allows the viewer to achieve a much greater sense of proportion of the painted landscape. This can best be seen in the “Cuillin Hills, Isle of Skye” painting, where the viewer can see ALL the peaks in the mountain range as opposed to only a portion of the range as was created in “Cuillin Hills From South Skye.” By focusing on only a small portion of a Cinescape painting, the viewer can extend significantly the period where things are “seen for the first time.”
